TaxHub
The multi-tenant US sales tax rate API: cache-first lookups, versioned effective-dated rate history, bring your own TaxJar key, per-call metering.
What TaxHub does
Look up the rate for a location, or work out the tax on a whole order, with one API key.
Cache-first lookups
Rates are served from TaxHub's own store. TaxJar is called only on a miss, and only for the locations you actually request; its answer is kept for the next call.
Versioned, effective-dated rates
A rate is never edited in place: a change closes the old version and opens a new one. Pass on_date for the rate in effect on any day, for backdated invoices.
Bring your own TaxJar key
Lookups that reach TaxJar run on your own TaxJar API key, which you add in your dashboard.
Per-call metering
Every call is metered to your account for usage-based billing. thk_live_… keys are billed per call; thk_test_… sandbox keys never are.
Endpoints
Authenticate with Authorization: Bearer and an API key. Every response carries an X-Request-Id header; quote it when contacting support.
/v1/rates?zip=10541&state=NYRate lookup
A location's rate by ZIP, optionally street, city and item. on_date serves the version in effect on that day.
/v1/rates/batchBatch lookup
Up to 100 lookups per call, answered in request order. Each item bills as one call.
/v1/calculationsOrder calculation
An order's tax: lines, shipping, exemptions and origin sourcing, in one billable call.
/v1/usageUsage
Your own metered usage, grouped by day, endpoint or key.
/v1/healthHealth
Liveness. Unauthenticated and never billed.
